The NWSDB has been serving for the island by supplying of purified drinking water, maintain hygiene for past four decades having established in 1975 as a prestigious statutory body in the discipline of water supply and sanitary engineering. It had been delivering the service in a similar capacity under the administration of public works department, prior to taking over business by the ministry of irrigation, power & highways in 1995. The service has been monopolizing the public utility sector while complying with the vison and mission statements of NWSDB. Currently the NWSDB serves approximately two million consumers envisioning to expand its` horizon to build a healthy nation.

Bandarawela Manager Office of National Water Supply and Drainage Board situated around 2km away from the city centre of Bandarawela. It’s quite easy to find the place which is situated in the Vishaka new road close to the Bandarawela to Ettampitiya Highway. All the Operation & Maintenance functions of the 27 Water Supply Schemes of Badulla district are controlled while providing purified water for around 250,000+ people with current 77402+ water connections are managed through the Bandarawela Manager Office and the total annual turnover is around Rs. 559.63 Mn. This is one of a top-rated Regional offices in NWSDB Srilanka while gaining awards for commercial services, laboratory services including 5S certification, purifying services in the water treatment plant, etc. The reason behind the awards as well as consumer appreciations is higher skillful staff around 51 in the Regional Manager office and 170 of the Office In-charge offices (Water Treatment Plants) and also the directives of the Regional Support Center (Uva) situated at Badulla.

  • Human Resource planning and development.

  • Budgeting and financial control.

  • Publicity and consumer awareness programmes on effective use of water and reduction of non-revenue water.

  • Laboratory services for water and wastewater quality monitoring and control.

  • Technical assistance to Community Based Organizations (CBO’s), Local Authorities, State Agencies and Private/ Public sector institutions.

  • Consultancy services on water supply and sanitation.

Strength & Technical Capabilities

Our Strengths

We have a highly motivated technically skilled staff. Our staff include senior professionals who have qualifications in technical, financial, management and other disciplines. Our staff also include middle level officers who are technically qualified having wide experience in the field of water supply and sewerage.

In the Planning and Design Division the process designs, pipe line designs, water treatment plant designs and pumping station designs are undertaken by senior engineers who have wide experience in the field of water supply & sewerage.



Technical Capabilities

We are carrying out operation and maintenance of more than 21 water supply schemes throughout Badulla District. Modern technologies are being used for our works. Software applications such as WaterCAD are being used for pipeline designs and also GPS technology. We are utilizing Information Technology resources for our works at a satisfactory level as mobile apps for consumer services and meter reading functions. There are Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks and other hardware and software to improve the efficiency of our works.
